Recall how at the end of Luke's gospel he focussed on two key reasons for the crucifixion of Jesus.
The Jewish leadership in particular was too narrow to accept the teachings of Jesus. With their loud voice they pressured Pilate, the Roman governor, into crucifying him. In Sections B and C of Acts Luke describes how the new, Christian leadership took action to counter narrowness by making an outreach to recognise the potential authenticity of outsiders. They also took action to counter opposition to this outreach. In the text to follow these sections, Luke has an emphasis on something that is more than a 'loud' voice. He presents an environment where there is a living voice. |
